The Lantern Festival

The first traditional Chinese festival of the year is the Chinese New Year. Like every New Year in the world, Chinese New Year is Jan.1; except it's on the lunar calendar. This year, Jan. 1 of the lunar calendar falls on Jan. 29 of our normal calendar. The pre-celebration begins on Chinese New Year's Eve with a late night feast with the entire family members (mom, dad, brothers, sisters, grandpa, grandma, aunts, uncles, cousin and the family pets). When the clock strikes at mid-night, the New Year celebration starts!!!

No celebration or festival would last forever! The Chinese New Year ends on the 15th day of the year. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival. Click here to see a cartoon about the the Lantern Festival (powered by yam.com).
